Glenigan's weekly roundup of keys statistics for the UK construction industry and the wider economy:

UK Economy

  • 73,000 homes were sold during June, 12,000 lower than last year, according to figures from HM Revenues & Customs. However, that figure was an increase of 5,000 houses on the number sold during May.
  • Total lending to home owners was £12.9 billion in June, down 3% on June last year. According to the figures released by the Council of Mortgage Lenders, lending was up by 16% on May’s total.
  • The value of retail sales increased by 4% over the year from June 2010 to June 2011, according to the ONS. The value of sales increased 0.3% between May and June, and the volume of sales rose by 0.7% over the same period.
  • Public sector net borrowing in June was £14 billion, which compares with £13.6 billion during June 2010.

 


Construction

The underlying value of projects being placed on hold declined by 4% over the three months to June, compared to the same period of last year, according to data collected by Glenigan.
